12 Tips to Help Prevent Christmas Tree Fires
The holiday season is upon us… Traditionally the most festive time of year, filled with colorful decorations, fun parties and family get-togethers. The last thing anyone wants to think about fires!
Christmas tree fire prevention is important to ensure the safety of your home and loved ones during the holiday season, so we came up with 12 Tips to Help Prevent Christmas Tree fires. Here are the tips!
1.) Choose a Fresh Tree: Select a fresh, green tree with needles that are hard to pull off and do not break easily. A dry tree is more flammable.
2.) Water Your Tree: Keep the tree stand filled with water at all times. A well-hydrated tree is less likely to catch fire.
3.) Check for Dryness: Check the tree regularly for dryness. If the needles are shedding easily or the branches are becoming brittle, it’s time to remove the tree from your home.
4.) Tree Positioning: Place the tree away from heat sources, such as fireplaces, radiators, and heating vents. Make sure it does not block doorways or exits.
5.) Inspect Your Lights Before Use: Inspect Christmas lights for frayed wires, broken bulbs, or other signs of damage. Discard damaged lights and replace them with new ones.
6.) Use LED Lights: Use LED lights on your tree. They emit less heat than traditional incandescent lights, reducing the risk of the tree drying out and catching fire.
7.) Turn Off Lights When Not in Use: Always turn off Christmas tree lights when you leave the house or go to bed.
8.) Limit Lighting Time: Avoid leaving lights on for extended periods, as they can contribute to the tree drying out.
9.) Use Flame-Resistant Decorations: When decorating your tree, choose flame-resistant or flame-retardant ornaments and decorations.
10.) Keep Away from Candles: Keep lit candles away from the tree. Opt for battery-operated candles for a safer alternative.
11.) Secure the Tree: Make sure the tree is securely placed in the stand, and if you have pets or small children, consider anchoring the tree to prevent it from being knocked over.
12.) Dispose of Trees Properly: When the holiday season is over, promptly dispose of the tree. Many communities have recycling programs for Christmas trees.
