Arctic Air Poses Threat to Workers & Property

by | Jan 12, 2024 | Auto & Home

Dangerously cold air is forecast for much of the country in the coming days, even extending to regions in the south that don’t normally experience sub-freezing temperatures.

Arctic air is expected to spread from the West into Central, Southern and Midwest states, and eventually reach the East. Frigid temperatures can pose risks to workers and property. Taking action now could help prevent injuries, the need for costly repairs, and disruptions to operations. View our Quick-Checklist and resource link below for details!

Protecting your building from winter weather:

    1. Keep the temperature inside a building above 40 degrees Fahrenheit
    2. Maintain the roof in good condition. Develop a plan to have ice or snow removed.
    3. Clear gutters and downspouts to allow water to freely move from the roof
    4. Seal windows and doors to keep cold air from penetrating the building.
    5. Have the building’s heating system serviced prior to the winter months.
    6. Have a response plan in place for addressing such an emergency. This would include shutting off the water to the pipe that is leaking and having an approved list of local contractors to call for quick repairs.

Last minute checklist for severe winter weather:

    1. Prepare for Power Outages
    2. Prevent roof collapse
    3. Stay warm and safe
    4. Prevent frozen pipes
    5. Know your winter weather alerts
