California Motorcycle Enthusiasts: Enjoy the Spring! But Make Sure You’re Properly Insured
Ah! The Great Outdoors!
There’s nothing like Springtime in California. Scenic coastal rides overlooking the ocean… or mountain trips taking in the new spring blooms filled with color and radiance. The weather is still cool, yet warming up and absolutely beautiful. But, don’t forget those California requirements! You need the right motorcycle coverage and United Agencies can help get you the best insurance policy available for.
Motorcycles, like RVs, are more popular than ever in 2021, but remember, you need to have liability coverage. Now into the second year of the pandemic, 2021 has made us grateful for vacation time and getting out of the house. There’s nothing like a great bike ride to make you feel free! But, before you do, it’s important to make sure your bike is properly insured before venturing out.
Presently, California riders must carry the following coverage:
• $15,000 per person bodily injury liability
• $30,000 per accident bodily injury liability
• $5,000 property damage liability.
Riders are also encouraged to purchase medical coverage. In the hopes of not having to make a claim, riders are also encouraged to purchase and wear full riding gear, including a properly-fitting helmet, jacket, gloves, pants and boots. These should be worn on EVERY RIDE.
For new riders, riding lessons are recommended, so they can learn proper safety habits right from the start.
Other types of recommended coverage on top of the minimum required California motorcycle insurance include collision coverage, comprehensive coverage, or underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage. It is substantially cheaper to purchase a policy in California than it is in much of the rest of the country. The national average premiums may be $1,173, but they’re a considerably lower average of $696.92 for Californian riders.
