Seminar Sponsored by United Agencies Insurance

Please join us Live and In Person on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 for our upcoming seminar event entitled: “Employment Law Update 2026: Ban on “Stay or Pay,” and Expanded Employee Notices.”  Will be held at the Burbank Airport Marriott, Start time 8:30am. NOTE! This is a LIVE and IN-PERSON Event. (Details and registration listed below!)

Another year means additional limitations on California employers and more requirements to satisfy.  The legislature decided to ban “stay or pay” agreements (except for limited exceptions), taking away the only practical method for employers to insure employees would stay after an investment in education, licensure or training.

Attendance at this briefing will help human resources professionals, managers and business owners navigate the increasingly complex employment landscape in California.

This Legal Update will address new California laws, including:

  • (SB 692): Bans provisions in employment agreements that require an employee to pay back costs incurred if they leave employment. Exceptions for tuition reimbursement and hiring bonuses if certain requirements met.
  • (SB 294): “Workplace Know Your Rights Act” requires stand alone notice of certain rights and notification of designated emergency contact if employee arrested or detained.
  • (SB 617) Requires additional information in Cal-WARN notices.
  • (SB 513): Must provide training and education records in responding to request for personnel file.
  • (SB 642) Changes definition of pay information to be provided to applicants and included on job postings.
  • (SB 464) Expands requirements for providing demographic pay data to the state for employers with 100 or more employees.
  • (SB 590) Employees taking leave for “designated persons” eligible for paid family leave benefits.
  • (AB 406) Allows time off for crime victims to attend judicial proceedings…
  • And more!
